111 Murray Street
111 Murray Street is a 60-story residential tower in Lower Manhattan's Financial District, designed by KPF for Fisher Brothers and Witkoff. The building's most distinctive feature is its curved facade geometry that creates a tapered, torch-like silhouette—a sculptural presence that distinguishes it within the densely developed neighborhood.
The unitized curtain wall system was fabricated in Montreal by Bluetec, a division of PNA, enabling efficient production and quality control of the thousands of panel units required for the 60-story envelope. The facade incorporates outswing hopper operable vents integrated into the unitized frame, allowing individual tenant ventilation control while maintaining the curtain wall's thermal and water management performance. The hopper vent detailing required careful engineering to ensure proper drainage paths and to prevent water infiltration during the inward swing cycle typical of these operable assemblies. The curved building geometry compounded this challenge—each hopper vent had to be custom-angled to follow the building's tapering profile, requiring coordination between Bluetec's fabrication capabilities and the structural frame's three-dimensional geometry to ensure units arrived on-site properly oriented and sequenced for installation.
